Supertubes doesn't need much introduction, but it changes daily — crowded one morning, empty and firing the next, hosting a world tour event a few weeks later. Point Diaries, the local photography project behind Surf Diary, has been quietly documenting exactly that all year. Here are five real entries from their log, in order, working up to the biggest event on the Jeffreys Bay surfing calendar.

Jordy Smith's Quick Pit Stop

18 May 2023

South African World Tour veteran Jordy Smith doesn't need long in the water to remind everyone why Jeffreys Bay produced him. This entry catches him mid pit-stop — in and out, no fuss, exactly the kind of session locals see from Jordy between events. Photography by Addai Willmott.

Mikey February, Twin-Fin at the Point

26 May 2023

Cape Town's Mikey February brings a distinctly retro touch to the Point — twin-fin lines drawn across a wall better known for high-performance surfing. A reminder that Supertubes rewards style as much as speed.

Chaos Lineup at the Point

20 June 2023

Not every entry is a solo session. When the swell lines up on a weekend, the Point fills fast — every section from Boneyards to Super Tubes stacked with boards. Shot by Addai Willmott and Jess Rankin.

June Wrap-Up: Cobbles Classic & Tidy Towns SA Open

2 July 2023

A busy month for Jeffreys Bay competitive surfing rolled into one wrap-up: the 10th anniversary Cobbles Classic and the Tidy Towns SA Open & Masters Championships, both run at Supertubes in June 2023. The reel features Grant "Twiggy" Baker, Greg Emslie, Zoe Steyn, Crystal Hulett, Cass Collier and a deep field of local talent — footage courtesy of Ernst Ohlhoff (@surfcanon).

The Pros Warm Up for the Jeffreys Bay Open

12 July 2023

The entry that started this whole log: raw, unedited footage of the world's best warming up at Supertubes before the Jeffreys Bay Open. The lineup reads like a World Championship Tour roll call — Jack Robinson, Gabriel Medina, John John Florence, Jordy Smith, Caitlin Simmers, Carissa Moore, Ítalo Ferreira and more, all trading the same wave that breaks past Lower Point.

New entries get added to this log as they're filmed — each one is a fresh, dated read on what Supertubes and the rest of the Point are doing on any given week, which is exactly the kind of thing worth checking before you book your own session.
